Armenia a sovereign state officially known as the Republic of Armenia  located in Western Asia, Armenia lies in the highlands surrounding the mountains of Ararat. There is evidence of an early civilization in Armenia in the Bronze Age and earlier, dating to about 4000 BCE.

Archaeological surveys in 2010 and 2011 at the Areni 1 cave complex have resulted in the discovery of world's earliest known leather shoe, skirt, and wine producing facility.

Lake Sevan, the world’s largest mountain lake, is a popular summer tourist spot.

Yerevan, Armenia’s capital, also boasts opera, theaters and other cultural attractions. Though relatively small in size, Armenia currently has three UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Armenia is a nation, and former Soviet republic, in the mountainous Caucasus region straddling Asia and Europe. Among the earliest Christian civilizations, it’s defined by religious sites including the reconstructed Greco-Roman Temple of Garni and 4th-century Etchmiadzin Cathedral, headquarters of the Armenian Church. Another pilgrimage site is Khor Virap Monastery, in the foothills of Mt. Ararat, just across the border with Turkey.
